On August 15th In the Year of 2010, Mr. Mahesh Jadhav opened ‘AADHAR’ a home for the children affected by HIV/AIDS and orphans at Kanbargi with 11 effected children and it was established with a personal contribution of Rs. 1.50 lacs by Mahesh Jadhav. Aadhar, Home for Homeless was started functioning by sheltering 11 orphans. But in a span of 6 months, the list of orphans has reached to 30. Aadhar takes care of the entire expenses of these orphans. Aadhar also shelters children who are HIV positive, complete and special care is taken of these children. All these children are aged between 4 to 12 years and all are from Belgaum District. It aims at overall development of the children and tries to give the love and affection of parents from which the children are deprived; we also aim at guide the children to lead an independent and respectful life in the society. Under Adhar the foundation not only takes care of the orphans but also looks after the children who are HIV+ and who have been abandoned by the society.
As we kept on supporting HIV effected children the count of the children effected by HIV and are orphans has grown up so much, that on April 2012 we opened one more orphanage called “ASHA KIRAN” at Ramthirth Nagar, and adopted 25 more children effected by HIV and are orphans. This ASHA KIRAN Orphanage has provided all basic facilities to the children and given the right of a child that is EDUCATION, Because we have witnessed the children are been thrown out of the school because they are affected by HIV? We make sure every kid goes school and gets educated.
Every month free nutrition distribution for 400 HIV infected children and “MALNUTRITION” affected patients.
As we started working for social causes we found there is something which is not considered as a cause and have to be vanished out of the society that is “MALNUTRITION”. Even though the kids affected by HIV are allowed in to schools and they lead normal life, they won’t get the nutritional food regularly as they need the nutrition more than medicines which make them live a longer life.
Mahesh Foundation has taken initiative and started a project of “NUTRITION SUPPORT” in which we provided nutrition support for 400 Children Living with HIV/AIDS and children affected by “MALNUTRITION” in Belgaum district that adds up to 20% of total CLHIV and 15% of kids in whole Belgaum district. The instances say that two CLHIV children on an average are dead because of non availability of proper nutrition food, as it is not practical to shelter all 1700+ children. Mahesh Foundation is trying to provide nutrition food to at least some of CLHIV so that it helps to keep them alive for time.
AADHAR village program involves the identification of communities long ignored by authorities and society at large, example slums and shanties, and providing the residents there with healthcare, education and improving their living conditions by involving the residents as well as bringing in volunteers. These areas have long been associated with sub-standard living conditions and negligence to basic sanitation and health needs.
This program revolves around social uplifting and bringing Primary Healthcare to slum dwellers and the children there. As of now, we have included the slum outside Kanbargi, in this program where we conduct a Health Education & Check up camp every Tuesday and Wednesday along with distribution of medicines for free. The healthcare initiative is managed by the resident Medical Officer and volunteers. The medicines and other requirements for the camp are paid for by donations from our gracious patrons. We are in the process of adding more of such communities that are in need of humanitarian efforts.
Those requiring higher/specialist medical attention are escorted to the nearby Government Hospital or a super specialty private hospital, as and when the need arises. There is also provision for a specialist healthcare provider for consultation on a once-a-week basis. We also avail services of a dentist to look after the oral hygiene of the residents and their children.
Regular follow up at the premises keeps the quality of care provided in check. We are proud to inform that we haven’t had a single case of treatment failure or relapse. This standard of care was unknown to the residents of the slum, who are now showing more interest in our other programs for the community.
A huge leap in the AADHAR Village program was taken when we got a small piece of land to build a makeshift clinic that will be a tremendous aid in providing adequate medical care to the residents and also cater to their privacy during an examination. The shelter will also protect our medical team from the elements and will only increase their efficiency and enthusiasm in making a difference.
We continue to look for areas that would benefit from our intervention and help us realize our vision for a better society.
We Mahesh Foundation has started a charitable Hospital of 15 beds under HEALTH CARE Program in which we support HIV Positive patients, with their treatment and medical expenditure, we provide facilities to the patients family members to stay down in hospital till the treatment and we give a moral support to let them live the life.
In this same hospital we run a Nutrition desk which monitors children affected by HIV and give them nutrition support.
We Mahesh foundation started a Program “ANNADANA SEVA” where we provide food to the family member of the patient’s admitted in Government Hospital. Because we have seen that they will be coming from long way for treatment and find difficult to accommodate.
We also distribute food ingredients regularly to the poor families living in slums and families only with women and kids. And we celebrate festivals in slums by distributing food ingredient packets to all the slum and share the joy.
